Bringing Joy to Underprivileged Children This Christmas

It was a meaningful celebration in this season of giving and sharing. Many thanks to all who have contributed and made this event a success.

IOI Corporation Berhad (IOI) together with its foundation, IOI Foundation (formerly known as Yayasan Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng) celebrated Christmas by organising a charity campaign titled ‘Santa Shoebox Charity Project 2019’ as part of their corporate social responsibility initiative.

The campaign was opened to all IOI employees, who pledged a Santa Shoebox to a child with a personal message on a gift card. These shoeboxes are filled with various educational supplies, toys and sweets. The campaign, which ran from 6 to 29 November 2019, brought joy to 60 underprivileged children, aged between four and 13 years old, from three selected homes, namely Pertubuhan Kebajikan Astana Kajang, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Yesuvin Mahligai Selangor, and Rainbow Home.

On 9 December 2019, the children and the representatives came to IOI City Mall (ICM) for a morning workshop courtesy of Hogan Bakery where Chef Taylor from Hogan Bakery led the children on a fun Gingerbread Man decoration session.  It was followed by a Christmas-themed origami lesson.

After lunch at Texas Chicken, the children were treated to a joyful musical performance by D’Flaming Reindeers, the carolling group from Putrajaya Marriott Hotel, Palm Garden Hotel and Palm Garden Golf Club. A spectacular magic show and appearances of Santa Claus and Santarina continued to enliven the Christmas spririt at the ICM Centre Court.

The children received their Christmas Santa Shoeboxes from IOI Foundation (formerly known as Yayasan Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng) Executive Director Datin Joanne Wong, who also presented a mock cheque of RM8,000 each to the three homes. Household supplies including food items sponsored by IOI Foundation (formerly known as Yayasan Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng) were also distributed to the homes. The children enjoyed a glorious time and departed with beaming smiles.
