Since 2010, IOI Corporation Berhad (IOI) has hosted IOI Earth Month annually to promote environmental stewardship and sustainability practices among the employees of IOI. We celebrated the 13th edition of our IOI Earth Month Campaign with a series of eco-related activities at our IOI headquarters throughout March. This year, we celebrated with the theme “Achieving Nature Positive Future” to appreciate biodiversity and conservation, as well as to amplify our efforts on water management and digitalisation of big data to combat climate change.
IOI Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Dato’ Lee Yeow Chor said: “Achieving a nature positive future requires efforts from every employee to practise responsible and efficient natural resources management. It involves rethinking the way we work, by adopting the 7Rs of circularity and regenerative agriculture practices, embracing innovation and collaborating with our supply chain partners to address our Scope 3 emissions.”
The campaign included lunch and learn workshops on urban farming and biodiversity, upcycling glass as well as menstrual health and sustainability, which brought our employees together and inspired them to adopt environmentally-friendly habits. It culminated with the submission of short stories by our employees on their personal actions and journey towards a nature positive future.
The Group has made significant progress in decarbonisation with our Climate Change Action initiative and set a target to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040. We have also aligned our Biodiversity and Ecosystem Enhancement Guidelines with the local and global environmental standards to enhance biodiversity protection, wildlife conservation and enrichment of the natural ecosystem in our operating sites, besides committed to the Science Based Target initiative’s Forest, Land and Agriculture standards to deliver our commitments based on climate science.
