IOI Corporation Berhad (IOI) secured a Gold award in the plantation sector under the equities category for the second time at the second The Edge Malaysia ESG Awards 2023 on Monday, 6 November 2023. Our consecutive win reinforces IOI’s leadership position in the environmental, social and governance (ESG) dimension.

“We are honoured to receive this meaningful award. We have embodied principles of ESG long before the term became fashionable. We embrace a comprehensive and integrated strategy to decarbonise our business operations, aiming to achieve a Group-wide net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions target by 2040. Our ESG strategies encompass circularity, cutting-edge green technologies and innovation in the areas of resources optimisation, GHG reduction and energy efficiency. Recently, we have commissioned a new palm wood factory to commercially produce high-performance wood panels from the underutilised oil palm trunks,” said IOI Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Dato’ Lee Yeow Chor.

The annual ESG Awards is hosted by The Edge Malaysia in partnership with Bursa Malaysia and FTSE Russell, with Morningstar as the knowledge partner and Deloitte as the auditor. This year’s awards advocated for more public-private collaboration to realise Malaysia’s sustainability goals. It also saw increased public-listed companies (PLCs) participation, with 356 qualified Malaysian PLCs and 69 funds contending for the equities and funds categories respectively.
