IOI Corporation Berhad (IOIC) received a Gold award under the equities category for the plantation sector at The Edge’s inaugural ESG Awards 2022 gala dinner, which was held at Sunway Resort Hotel yesterday. IOIC Group Head of Sustainability Dr Surina Ismail (centre) received the award on behalf of the company from FTSE Russell Head of Sustainable Investment for Asia-Pacific Ms Helena Fung (second from right). IOIC was among the 44 companies that were awarded at the gala dinner which was attended by approximately 400 people.
“We are honoured to receive this meaningful award. As we continue our efforts to build a better future, in IOI, I believe it is our people’s strong conviction and sense of responsibility, coupled with the consistent implementation of our environmental, social and governance (ESG) activities over the past decade and a half, which has contributed to us winning this award,” said IOIC Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Dato’ Lee Yeow Chor.
The Edge ESG Awards 2022 was organised in collaboration with Bursa Malaysia Bhd and FTSE Russell, with Morningstar as the knowledge partner for the funds category and Deloitte as the auditor. The ESG Awards is aimed at recognising public-listed companies (PLCs) and asset management firms that are ESG leaders in Malaysia. There are two categories to the award, with the first category is for PLCs on the FTSE Bursa Malaysia Emas Index and each PLC are judged based on FTSE’s ESG ratings methodology, and the second category is for funds recognised as Sustainable and Responsible Investment Funds by the Securities Commission Malaysia and each fund is judged based on Morningstar’s methodology.
