Responsible Sourcing at IOI: Supplier Engagement Workshop
29/10/2019, Corporate Sustainability

On 10 October 2019, IOI Corporation Berhad (IOIC) participated in a supplier engagement workshop in the furtherance of its No Deforestation, No Peat and No Exploitation (NDPE) policy commitments within the palm oil supply chain. The workshop, organised by Keck Seng (M) Berhad (Keck Seng) was held at Pasir Gudang, Johor and was attended by 32 participants from 20 mutual palm oil suppliers to IOIC and Keck Seng.

In the workshop, IOIC showcased its commitments for sustainable palm oil production and the values it delivers to the environment, the welfare of the people and the prosperity created for the community and economy. IOIC’s sustainability commitment is highlighted in the NDPE as well as by ensuring transparency and traceability of its crude palm oil supply to eliminate potential deforestation from its palm oil supply chain.

Earthworm Foundation also guided the participants on the Tools for Transformation, which is a digital platform to support suppliers in their self-assessment of its supply chain and generate implementation advice to close the gaps and to meet the NDPE requirements. Additionally, the workshop also conducted training on satellite monitoring of deforestation, high carbon stock approach and high conservation value in environmental protection, ethical recruitment, grievance management, human rights and freedom of movement. Keck Seng Palm Oil Mill Manager Mr AC Teo also presented on their best practices and showcased their efforts on freedom of movement.

The workshop has allowed both IOIC and Keck Seng to engage and support transformation within its palm oil supply chain through the sharing of resources, systems and best practices.

It is the aspiration of both IOIC and Keck Seng (M) Berhad for all our suppliers to adopt responsible practices in their operations and deliver sustainable palm oil products.
